Tried that earlier, it died with a loud BANG from the exhaust. It's just too retarded to rev that much.

2 questions:
Are all the modules you are experimenting with the exact same part number?
Similar looking modules (but with different part numbers) are not interchangeable.

How and with what are you checking your timing?

All the modules are different and repro. First is branded as Automega part number 191 905 351b which should work, but won't even start. The second one hasn't got any markings to it, but it's sold as a direct replacement to Airheads. Too retarded. The third one is a Huco 138002, too retarded. Have to return them all soon.

Checking the timing with a strobe ignition timing light, got the timing perfect a couple days before the ICU blew.

Get the EXACT same part number module as the one that came with the bike.
It is the only one that will work properly.

That specific module you need may also be listed for other applications, like maybe a 1984 VW Rabbit for instance, but I'm not aware of any cross- referencing charts.

Identical MFG # parts will usually be less expensive if they are stamped with a VW logo instead of a BMW or Mercedes logo.

The original Bosch 0 227 100 103 is now obsolete and cannot be found, the 191 905 351b module is the VW equivalent. The second has no numbers in it, but it's supposed to fit airheads. The Huco is a replacement for the original Bosch unit suggested by the local car parts store. All should work.

I could order a ICU from BMW with another different parts number, 153 euros and takes about a week. A bit too much.

I have a suspicion that I have problem with the timing chain, but that should be seen with the valves too, shouldn't it?

I'll receive a 80's VW module in a couple of days so I have some time to check the timing chain. I'll keep you posted, please let me know the part number if you have a module that works.

Why are you suspecting a timing chain problem?
How much mileage on the bike?

My reference to a certain VW model was just hypothetical, no idea if that one will work on your airhead.
I remember from my VW hot rod days that certain modules would allow for higher RPM cutout.

73000 km’s, I have no idea how many times the odometer has gone around. I replaced the throttle gear and the housing cover was the first revision, so might be that it still has under 100k. Late ignition timing is all I have to suspect timing chain problems.

That HD module will work, too bad the shipping to Finland is almost as much as the module.
