Jets for Mikuni Carbs

Hey guys - those of you who have Mikuni carbs VM32 for you R75/5 - what jets sizes are you using? 200 Main, 35 pilot? I am in NC -no high elevation, and only go the mountains occasionally.

Hey Hudson, did you get it sorted? I had 34mm Mikunis on an R-65. Loved them. I am considering getting them for my R100.

Hey Gibson - I have 190 as my main jet. I think some have used 200? Just wanted to know if it made that much difference. I can't remember what my idle jet is. I have the 32MM for my R75/5. I rebuilt my carbs a while ago, but didn't remember what was in them previously ( I had neck surgery some time ago and never finished getting this and some other things sorted out). Then I procrastinated and been riding my R1100s. I do remember the Mikunis being very responsive and take right off.

Hey Hudson, a jump from 190 to 200 is not going to be a big difference. Try it and see how it runs. Need to run full throttle and test. I did a lot of experimenting with jets to come up with what worked best on the R-65. For most riding situations, the needle, clip position and the needle jet is most important. I was able to lean it out quite a bit to improve gas mileage from my initial settings. I believe I was running in the 175 or 180 main jet range for my R65.

Thanks Gibson. I will probably just leave the 190. What notch on the needle are you using? I am currently in the second notch from the top. If I remember correctly, that was the recommended groove.

Sorry, I don't have the bike anymore. Mikuni's are so easy to play around with. If I had the bike I would just go and check. A lot of people say stick with the Bings, but they are not well made or easy to adjust like a Mikuni.
