Mikuni 34 Carbs
Mikuni 34 Carbs
Switched to 34 mm Mics on my R100 mystic. Purchased from Rocky cycles. Have to say these are great, easy to sync and worth every penny!!! I did the same mod on my R65 years ago, and never looked back.

What are the benfits over the stock Bings? I would have expected a reduction in venturi size to strangle the top end...

Re: Mikuni 34 Carbs
Stock Bings were 32mm. Mics are 34mm. Non CV slide carbs are much smoother inside. Flow more air. Better throttle response, Bette gas mileage. Power is noticeably stronger. Mikuni is easier to sync, and they stay in sync.
Re: Mikuni 34 Carbs
I think only the later USA model r100 got 32mm Bings for noise & emission reasons.
Elsewhere r100's have 40mm Bings.
Elsewhere r100's have 40mm Bings.

Yes, either emissions or economic reasons. They all went to 32mm. The 34 Mikuni is the recommended replacement for the 40mm Bings too.

Re: Mikuni 34 Carbs
Strange that, the BMW parts lists that I have access to don't show 32mm carbs (or any of the parts that go with them) for the R100R. I know I'm in the UK but the lists do show other US specific 'adaptions'. Not the first time I've found holes in the parts lists. I wonder what effect it has on power output and delivery???

All US bound Mono and Paralever R100s had 32s.
So does my 1978 /7.

Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.
Re: Mikuni 34 Carbs
I, just this month, put the TM34 flat slide carbs, from mikunioz.com , on my 1977 R75/7. HUGE upgrade over even the best maintained Bings. More bang for the buck than VMs. Plus mikunioz includes billet adapters for the front and rear of the carb so they fit exactly into the factory intake pieces. No cutting or using radiator hose. Plus extra jets are included as well as the necessary cable fittings and new inner cables for the factory outer throttle housings.
Better starting. Smoother idle. Better roll-on acceleration.
