I used to post lots of pics here, until photobucket held all my pics to ransom, and then smugmug's linking features failed.
So now I don't use any hosting sites.
ADV rider allows direct linking which is very easy.

You can just drag a pic in from your desktop.
You won't see it right away, it will only appear when you switch to preview mode or submit.
At least that's how it works on my Mac.

Oh, ya, I forgot to mention that's what happened to me too.
So I 'captured selection' with Grab app and used that.
It makes it a smaller file.
Looks the same until you blow it up.
I have no clue if what I'm doing is technically right, I'm computer illiterate, but it worked.

Bxwks forum used to only allow very small files, less than 200kb. That's nothing. It has increased, but you can't load 4 mb photos. I haven't had a problem with 400 kb shots. Maybe a nice site moderator, would tell us what the limits are? So..... just learn how to resize your photos and drag them in. You have to select "place in line" to complete the project. If you are worried about you original file, just duplicate the photo and work with that. :geek:

Absolutely! I think a Peninsula meetup could be great.

If ever you wanted to, I’d be happy to help you set up your own image hosting platform. I use a mix of my own hosting environment and a Windows app called ShareX to easily upload/share media with people.

This would let you have your own environment that you control. In any case, totally understand where you’re getting at regarding image hosts.

Thanks for that Kmisterk, I had a brief discussion with Boxerworks member Airbear about self hosting a few weeks ago.
Is it easy to set up?

Perhaps living in Australia is the reason a pressure washer works for me.
It can get to 45c+ in my bike shed. That would help too.
I don't wash it if I can't dry it quick.

ShareX is Windows-only, but on a mac, there are tools that are *close* but none do exactly what I want them to.

Depending on how you go about doing it, it can be super simple. If you're in AU, you can pay as little as $25 a *year* for your own hosting environment where you just host your pictures out of it. Including your own domain.

I also operate my own server and wouldn't mind at all setting up a similar configuration on it for nothing, just need a domain at that point.

I'd be happy to connect via skype or discord or similar and get you going some weekend in the near future.

Do you use a Windows-based computer?

Hi Jeff. Once photofukit did their thing I switched to Smug Mug too. I'm still using Smug Mug. It seems to work ok.
1. Click that curved arrow, then 2. click on "embed" in the next screen.
ImageImage

3. select file size, 4 select copy.

Final step, once the green link thingee says copied, is to click the picture icon in your thread response and paste the link between the square brackets img & /img.
Cheers, Steve
