R 90 S fairing removal

Post by warre-rand »

I have a an R90S with a cracked fairing.
I unfastened to the 2 top brackets.
I took the blinkers off the end of the stalks.
The stalks are a little more than an inch long.
I can slide the fairing about a half inch side to side . It appears to be at the cracking point.
The stalks will rotate forward about a 1/4 inch.
I'm about a half inch from being able to slide the fairing off. It doesn't look like it is going to give me that half inch!!!
At this point, it looks like the whole front end is going to have to come off in order to get the fairing off.
Am I missing something ??

The OE r90s fairing can (could) be removed by 'stretching' it over the turn signal stalk(s), one side at a time.
Possibly the years have made yours more brittle, or maybe it's not a stock fairing?
Maybe a bit of heat from a blow dryer around the area you think might crack will allow it to stretch that extra little bit you need.

Otherwise (PITA) you might have to raise the top triple clamp to allow the stalk to move up past its locating pin and pivot forwards.

it's possible you have the incorrect (longer) turn signal stalks installed. can you measure yours?

It's like turning your amp up to 11 and blowing it, when it only goes to ten.
