Another…charging…issue
Re: Another…charging…issue
Edit: now the new regulator is working. I played with the adjuster on the back. Bulb goes almost all the way out and I’m getting a good healthy charge up to 13.4-6v. So…

Re: Another…charging…issue
It looks very much as though you now have a diode board issue, In particular, I think it is likely that the initial ground problem might have blown one of the diodes on the diode board.
The below link will take you to a testing routine to check the individual diodes (there are 11 of them) on the board. While this refers to the stock board, the (electrical) configuration of the Enduralast board is the same as are the terminal designations.

I don't know the physical configuration of the Enduralast board, and I can't say if it is possible to replace individual diodes. If you can't, then I'm afraid you will have to replace the board.
The fact that you appear to be getting a full charging voltage from the alternator doesn't mean that it is working properly or is able to give it's full output. The fact that the charge light is still glowing means that at least one of the phases of the three phase alternator isn't working and your charging is relying on the remaining two (or one). While this will provide a charge as long as the load isn't too high, it means you won't get the full output and the output you are getting will be likely to overload the remaining phase windings... or to put it another way, if you want the full output from your alternator, you need to fix this.

Re: Another…charging…issue
The word 'almost' is disconcerting.
The light should go completely out.
Typically a weak diode in the board is what causes the charging light to stay on dimly.
but it could also be
stator
bad ground
regulator
First thing I would do: Alligator clip a wire to the solid metal body of the TOP half of the diode board and connect the other end to the battery negative terminal and see if the charge light goes out completely. (edit: with engine running)

I have recently gone through a simalar, issue and finally discovered that even though it checked out with a meter it was in fact the diode board causing the system to 2 phase. Dont know if your using the original board but a new one was only £50.
Re: Another…charging…issue
Hey all, meant to update this. My issue was an install error. I accidentally installed the brush holder fiber washers so it was grounding out to the housing. Fixed and running great.

Re: Another…charging…issue
maybe I missed it in the previous threads, but did you bypass the voltage regulator and then test ouptut voltage?
It's pretty simple. You remove the 3 pin plug and insert a jumper wire between 2 of the terminals, if I recall.

For the airheads in "Police" version there was a regulator available with higher voltage at lower rev's.
BMW part number : 12 32 1 244 737.
Also available a Siebenrock :

They don't help at all when you're sucking out more juice than the alternator can supply.
I'm sure Rob F can explain why more elaborately than me.

They help a bit. If not enough toen you need this:
