Beware Of EnDuraLast Cables For R75/6

Hello,

I would like to warn everyone about clutch and brake cables made by EnDuraLast. Recently I purchased both for a 1975 BMW R75/6 from one of the top vendors and they were unusable. The brake cable was designed poorly and binded when applied. Using it on the bike required alot of extra hand pressure. This was a badly made piece and dangerous too. The clutch cable I received was too short and when adjusted it was impossible to get the proper 90 degree angle down below. There was not enough cable there to do it. My recommendation for control cables is to purchase them from BMW.

The following cables by EnDuraLast are NOT RECOMMENDED:

Brake Cable BMW R75/6, R90/6, R90S; 32 73 1 234 400 / EnDuraLast

Clutch Cable Low Bar - BMW Airhead R60, R65, R75, R80, R90, R100; 32 73 2 324 958 / EnDuraLast

Have you tried spaeking to Enduralast and/or the vendor. They may have production issues and be very glad of the heads up. In any case, they should really offer you you're money back.

You ordered clutch cable 32 73 2 324 958, it is for low(er) bars like a r90s.
Sounds like you need the 'high' bar clutch cable. part #32 73 2 324 957. It's about an inch longer. BMW never made extended cables for 'ape-hangers'. High-bar means regular.

The brake cable from the lever to the master cylinder has to be routed in one smooth arc, without any kinks or bends.
edit: There are two brake cable part numbers to check: you got 32 73 1 234 400 and maybe you need 32 73 1 234 857. It changed in 1975.

Either way, when replacing any cable it's a good idea to lay the old cable and the new cable side by side and compare everything before installing the new one.

I'd discuss it with Enduralast and see what they have to say.

For low bars, the cable gets routed around the left side of the head tube.

For high bars, on the right side.

Speaking of cables. When I replaced the front brake cable going to the under-tank M/C I purchased a BMW cable from dealer for my 74 R90/6. I never could get the cable to hook up no matter if I attached the handle end first of the other was around it was just too short to hook up to the lever on the M/C. I even took off the lock wheel on the M/C end adjuster to try to gain enough slack to hook it up. I measured it against the old cable and it appears that the housing was just a bit too long, or the cable itself was too short, don't remember anymore. I ended up using an after market one that I had purchased previously. Still laying around on one of my work benches. Point is cables are made by a vender for BMW, so they even get it wrong sometimes.

I recently had a similar problem with a new brake cable on my 74 R90/6 project. A little too short to reach the master cylinder lever. I eventually figured out the that the cable end (nipple?) wasn't seating fully into the old original barrel. This is all hidden inside the brake lever so you can't see the problem. The nipple is crimped onto the cable with a hex sided tool which leaves 6 little high spots that interfere with the fit into the barrel. Once I filed down these high spots and filed the inside of the barrel it fit properly. This had to be done on both ends of the brake cable. The cable is still a tight fit but at least it works and will probably stretch a little with use.
