Front wheel bearings

That's the beastie... they've been made by various people over the years. Mine is made of brass but is otherwise much the same.

I don't know if anyone is making them at the moment but anyone with a lathe could knock one up in next to no time...

I do have a tool like this, I've never used it. But I do have two new seals for the front wheel. Thinking I might as well clean and replace.

Certainly, if you're replacing the seals, it's well worth removing and cleaning the bearings before greasing them thoroughly. Once the seals are removed, the inner races and caged rollers just lift out with their top hat spacers. Make sure the top hat spacers go back in the same location... they aren't all the same length.

Where the greasing tool is good is that it means you can keep fresh grease in the bearings with a quick pump of the grease gun each time you take the wheel out. This is particularly useful on snowflake wheels where removing the bearings involves prying the grease seal out of the wheel and this is very likely to damage the lip of the seal.
