Recommended tyres for R100R

Post by endo85 »

Hello,

I’ve just bought a 1995 R100R Mystic with a genuine 25,900 miles on the clock.

It’s only covered about 1500 of those miles since 2006. It’s in good condition overall (on the outside a least) but work to do before my first ride.

Both tyres have cracked sidewalls and low tread: a Michelin Macadam on the rear and a Continental TK 11 on the front.

Does anyone have any recommendations for replacements?

Thanks in advance!

Nice looking machine, I have a Metzler on the front and seems very good, rear has a worn Bridgstone and am going to get a matching tyre for the rear as the feeling from the back is not nice at all, my ride is a R80/7

Welcommen. :)

What sort of riding do you think you'll be doing?
Commuting/highway/mountains...
Touring or hardcore cornering etc...?

You probably can't go too wrong with Michelin, Avon, Metzler...

Nice Ride!
I've installed the new Bridgestone BT 46's on my twin shock R100. They had original sizes.

Of course it's how you will be using the bike. I find these work well. I live in a place with very curvy roads and they feel good to me.
Any and all disclaimers may apply

Michelin has allways been my choice for airheads. good quality and long lasting with good grip on the wet as far as I can consider.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions.

Once I’ve changed all the fluids and given the bike some TLC I’ve a short tour planned with a couple of pals around Northern Europe.

So day rides and touring will be where this bike will be mostly ridden, but if the road and conditions are good I’d like to see how well she handles!

Re tyres and replacements, with my bike being 1978 R80/7 and with modern tyres am interested in what pressures people use, the plate on the bike seems odd in that the front tyre has a higher pressure than the rear, iv'e never seen the front higher then the rear on any other bike i have had.

Just wish it would stop raining here.

32 psi front and 36 psi rear for my Airheads with usually Michelins.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

I thought there was some kind of rule against talking about tires here.
The sooner you get behind, the more time you'll have to catch up.
