Pieces of something in my oil sump. 1985 BMW R80RT

I was hearing a clicking noise from one of my engine heads, so, at the suggestion of my friend, who has much more experience with BMW bikes, we took off the oil sump to see if there was a potential clog.
Upon taking it off, there was a lot of blue goo that the previous owner had used to secure the seal, which got into the oil sump and which might have potentially caused the ticking noise by clogging the oil intake to the right head. But there were also some large shards of metal. I don't know if these are from something I did or if it's from something that the previous owner did and repaired partially. I've only had the bike a few months.
I would appreciate help figuring out what part these shards are from.

Curved? Bottom flange of a cylinder?? Hopefully not, but whatever it is it's likely $

I agree with Steve... engine strip time. You need to find out where those bits came from and preferably what caused them to break off. It's also important to discover if there are any more bits in there waiting to cause you grief... It's possible that a PO has repaired some fault elsewhere and just not bothered to get the bits out of the sump but I REALLY wouldn't want to count on it. Not a good start I'm afraid.

Agreed looks like the bottom of a cylinder, I hate it when people put so much gasket goo on joints, if it's blue it could well be Hylomar.

It's hard to tell but I agree it could be that. If it is, I dread to think what horrors await inside...

Question are the fragments you found in the sump steel or alloy, you can check using a magnet if it picks them up then it's steel, if not then alloy.
Reason I ask you mentioned a clicking noise from one of the cylinders and now wonder if the fragments are a piston breaking up.
