Leaking carb.

Post by SteveD »

I found a puddle of fuel under the left carb.
Taps were turned off, bike on the centre stand.
Clear bowls allowed vision of the float seating at an angle.
Bowl off and the pivot pin has come loose. Float has slid to an angle. Replaced the pin which was worn on the serrated end. Compared 1.93mm to 2.03mm with the new one.

Loosened the carb to head manifold...fuel dripping out so spark plug out and grounded and turned the ignition over and spat a bit of fuel out. Hardly any. Oil level check was ok...lower part of the stick markings and signs of thinner fuel.

Still, taps were off? Shouldn't leak. So left side tank emptied and the left tap was removed.

Here's the fluid level after this fix. The bowl was fuller before starting.

Germa tap though mine had some other bits inside...the sliding parts that provide the click in place feel.

parts replaced # 7, 3 and the unnumbered washer b/w 4 & 5.
....The one on the left was replaced. Rubber bits had some rubber grease massaged into them. Crud removed from nooks etc.

New short inline filter. See the crud from around the old one. The washer was toast.
I then cleaned the internal mesh sock and removed the cork from its innards. The cork eventually just blocks the fuel flow. That happened to me once before! One of those diagnostic conundrums. Engine cutting out frequently.
A couple of new gasket/washers then reassembly.

I'll leave it overnight, clean white paper under the carb. Taps left on...Inspect tomoz. If it leaks, I'll do the right tap too. I didn't think there was too much wrong with the left side though.
