Mono vs twin shock pannier frame fitting?

Post by Hawki »

I have a 1978 R100RS. I’m looking for a sett of pannier frames to fit it in the uk. I have seen a set of frame for a mono available that look in good condition. Do anyone know if they will fit my bike?

Hi, they seem to come up on eBay every so often so I'd maybe hang on until something comes up for the correct model.

The Monoshock frames and the twinshock pannier frames are different and won't fit... certainly not in a 'bolt on' sense. To add to the mix, frames for the:

a) Short wheelbase /5 series,
b) The R45/R65 series,
c) The GS/LS series,
d) The 'R' series

also won't fit.

You need to source a set from a twinshock main series bike between about 1970 and 1984.

Bear in mind, also, that there are a number of different frames that fit the criteria above and you my need extra parts dependant on the model of pannier you intend to fit (and whether they're OEM or aftermarket).

The subject of panniers for airheads, which seems so simple, is big enough for a small book... well a pamphlet anyway... nothing BMW is ever simple.
