I'm looking into getting a pair of electric gloves for some cold weather riding. Maybe a vest too.
Any recommendations?
Electric gloves, anyone?
Re: Electric gloves, anyone?
Gloves are a hassle, and bulky. Get Hippo Hands.
ZM seems real happy with his front-side only vest from RiderWearhouse. He has a thread on it, somewhere.
Are you stock at 280W of alternator power?

Rob, thanks, I've got a set of Hippo hands, but will only fit on the /7 IF I take off the bar-end mirrors. The electric glovesjustoneoftheguys wrote:Gloves are a hassle, and bulky. Get Hippo Hands.

and possible vest will be for the K1100RS and its ConEdison 700 watt alternator. I recall Zombie's thread and will re-read, see if it warms me up....

Good point Rob. The Heated bib uses much less power and is keeping me warm. Of course, you have to have the rest of your system working, as in Gortex, Merino base layer. Then the bib provides enough heat. If your jacket is not that good a full heated under liner would be best. I find the fit of outerwear very important to get that seal that locks the heat in,justoneoftheguys wrote:Gloves are a hassle, and bulky. Get Hippo Hands.

I've got a set of Gerbing heated gloves. They are very toasty, nicely made but not waterproof. Maybe the new ones are. They should be. I rarely use them because they are a PIA, getting all wired up, But if it gets really cold, I will put them on. My hands do not get cold with those gloves. And I'm a finger wuss.
Any and all disclaimers may apply
Re: Electric gloves, anyone?
Me too. Hands are my weak link in the winter. I got them frostbitten many years ago because I couldn't wait to try out my new Bonneville in 1970. Since then, they've never been the same in cold weather. If it's really cold and I want to ride, I'll break out the Gerbings. But you've got to have a "Heat-Troller" or whatever it is they call it or you'll cook your hands off...

Gloves and Electricity YEE HA!
You should be fine with power on your K bike as I am on my Oilhead.
I have Gerbings Gloves. I like them. They are not even the new Micro wire that the few I have talked to say are
even better.
For me tho. if your core isnt warm, you aint warm. If money is an issue start with core warmth like a Bib or Heated Jacket Liner. Then add the heated gloves.
I very rarely use my electric gloves anymore tho??????? Why? I bought a set of Lee Parks Phase change gloves. Those with
my areostitch 3 finger gloves over the top in cold or rain work great for me. I would have never believed this phase change stuff worked, but it does.
Hope that helps?

From what I've seen though, a heated jacket liner (with sleeves) will keep your hands warm with a decent pair of winter gloves. Blocking the wind will help even more.
Otherwise....
Heated Handlebar Mitts.
Yes, you read that right.
Take a pair of the normal Handlebar Mitts like this (the shorter the better)....
Some Handlebar Gaurds like this (OEM GS or after market).....
and Heated Grip Kit or Heated Grip Covers like these (one or the other)...
* Attach the heater to the gaurds in front of your hands then slide the mitts over.
* These babies draw very little power and allow you to use your summer gloves.
* The shorter the mitts are the easier it is to get your hands in and out (major safety issue).
* The gaurds help keep the mitts from collapsing at speed against the levers (again with the safety issue).
