R50/5 Final drive pinion bearing removal

Post by JohnT »

Any one done this?
I have borrowed the necessary tools to undo nut and remove threaded seal ring.
I will obviously have to heat the final drive housing but just wondering the best way to remove shaft with bearing. There's not a lot to get hold of or get at with a drift.

Heat up the area around the bearing until it's really hot (with a heat gun, not a torch) and then knock the complete assembly on a block of hardwood in the right direction and the pinion shaft will fall out with the bearing.
