G'Day Mates

Don't know about burnin me bike boys!!

But I'm willing to put in twice the share for wood as i'll be there two nights, think it would
work on a user payer basis, eg, one night one share.

Grant's price sounds good, maybe a bit more if it's good wood.
Regards, Bob

Charlie,
Is that you with a red beard? I've been doing a pre-pack on the bike to see how the load will go. I don't think I could fit in kindling, much less a couple of sleepers. I'm in for some firewood, I'm a sissy from the north coast. I'm a yaussie and proud to be a ratbag. I could bring a couple of my hats, perhaps the Yacht Club one, certainly the Polite one.

Gidday Bob. It sounds like your RS will be safe from the flames for a while at least.

Grant and She'llbe - yep, that's me, xmas 1982, in Sydney.

The story: A mate was throwing out an old beetle in Melbourne, so I went down with an angle grinder, cut off the roof and tied it onto the roof bars and drove back to Albury. I cut a hole in the kombi roof, pop riveted the beetle roof on and bogged it up, all in a weekend. (Where the fuck has that energy gone?). It was a great bus - I could stand up and play the fiddle in there. I lived in it for about a year, travelling around the local area and doing the folk festivals, just camping where I pleased. It provoked lots of giggles from other drivers and pedestrians but was oddly invisible to the police. They searched it for drugs a couple of times but never mentioned the roof nor found the drugs. In '84 I did a year of study and was too poor to be able to afford a roadworthy and rego. I swapped it for a bicycle and the new owner used it as a spare room for a couple of years. Then he had to move and had it towed to the Bethanga tip, just a few hundred metres from where I now live, where it was buried under a mound of purple, arsenic-contaminated soil. It had no rust, apart from the usual in the battery compartment. The body would be worth a fekkin' fortune now, to the young and pierced kombi lovers.

Other interesting stuff: The curve of the metal ridge under the beetle windscreen exactly matched the curve of the kombi roof. It was like they were meant to go together. Also, I fabricated a sheet metal vent housing at the rear of the beetle roof. With the vent open it was really comfortable in there in summer. I dunno why all cars don't have a vent in the back.

ps: Brown beard. Not a ranga, though it would be ok if I was. No ginger prejudice here.

Righty-oh.
I spoke to the owner of the petrol station at Talbingo today regarding firewood.
He sells firewood there but I said we were after about 3/4 of a cubic metre, expecting to pay about 80 dollars for it.
The local firewood supplier is on holidays until the end of August.
I have left my phone numbers with the servo owner, and I will call him again at the end of August to follow up on our order.
The servo owner said there was only the one bloke who sold firewood in town.......who goes on holiday in winter

I let him know that we were a BMW splinter group and that we wouldn't be burnt buying firewood as we weren't green when it came to buying wood.

I will also look for any other options to secure firewood.

Good stuff Jeff. If he's on holidays that'd explain why he hasn't rung me yet!

I bought an axe today, for the tent poles! Might come in handy log splittin' too!
