Replacing pushrod tubes

Post by aharrett »

I need to replace a leaking pushrod tube on my '79 R100. Haynes just says push the old one out, I have tried in the past to move one, and they seem pretty immoveable. What's the technique, heat the barrel up in an oven and then press?

Hans @ Hucky's sells a drift, http://www.bmwhucky.com/010071.html for the job or you can make one if you have a lathe. A mechnic friend has a universal drift set that has the right size in it and that is what I have used.

A little heat would help, but I would not go above 250 ish F. Hopefully some PO has not glued them in with some magic snot. :o
