Several weeks ago I was looking for help concerning a battery that would not hold a charge on my '82 R100RS. Thanks to the Forum, (That's you guys) I found I have been riding for many years with a voltage regulator that seemed stuck on 10.8Volts. I could ride for many miles and since I always put the bike on a battery tender, didn't realize how much trouble I was in.A new regulator from Thunderchild-Design for $23 bucks has everything back where it should be.
An interesting side effect was the obvious Voltmeter coming back to life (Duh) but more important, my tachometer has begun to function properly and my speedometer no longer dances like so many R100's do.
The tach would read ocassionally the proper rpm then drop to half speed, then maybe back up or down to zero. Now it is steady as a rock. I know the speedo runs mechanically, and the regulator should have nothing to do with it but I can only report was has happened.
I hear many riders tearing their Speedo/Tach units apart for repairs and wonder how many were simply an incomplete functioning regulator.TomJ

Thanks. Good to know. Hopefully I'll remember that when needed.

Doesn't your 82 have an electric tach and mechanical speedo? If so it all makes perfect since. The speedo drive has nothing to do with the tach on your machine.724thomas wrote: The tach would read ocassionally the proper rpm then drop to half speed, then maybe back up or down to zero.
