1973 LWB R75/5,
Leads are unhooked, straps are off, sidecovers are off.
Do I really have to start unbolting the battery-holder now?
The battery comes out through the top, right?

Re: R75/5 battery removal/installation
I've heard of folks removing the air box and taking it out over the gear box.
On my '79 R65, to take it out through the top I had to remove the nuts from the sub-frame connection and back the bolts out for maximum width clearance.

You may need to remove the two top bolts and tilt it backwards. It usually helps to remove the top two bolts that hold the rear frame section and maybe pull it back a bit. They vary from bike to bike.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

I got it out!
I removed the bolts that hold the "battery-box" (it's not really a "box") and Weaseled it out from the top.
Thanks

This is what's always worked for me too.Duane Ausherman wrote:You may need to remove the two top bolts and tilt it backwards. It usually helps to remove the top two bolts that hold the rear frame section and maybe pull it back a bit. They vary from bike to bike.

I second that procedure Mr. A.Duane Ausherman wrote:You may need to remove the two top bolts and tilt it backwards. It usually helps to remove the top two bolts that hold the rear frame section and maybe pull it back a bit. They vary from bike to bike.

The new, improved battery is in. It is a little narrower and a little thinner, BMW # 61 21 2 346 800, AGM.
Being a "Belt and Suspenders" kinda-guy I reinstalled the sidecovers with the proper part AND tie-wrapped them to the frame AND Bungeed them together (tensioning the Bungee with a Tie-wrap to the rear-fender-mount).
