My theory, you were going twice as fast as you thought you were. Let's say you were thinking you were going 70mph or so. You were, in actuality, going 140. Admit it. You do it every once in a while just to blow out the cobwebs. So, as you're belting down the highway, the tach decides to act up. Seems like a conspiracy between the tach and speedo, but it is easily explained.

There. I've solved it. No more of that silly time/space talk, OK?
