Centre stand

1982 R100 Any ideas on how to make the horrible centre stand workable?
Alteration, modifications etc
I have been putting up with it for 25 years or more but am now getting old and have trouble physically lifting the whole bike weight up on to it.

Check out the website of a Swiss guy called Jorge(?), he has got some good stuff on getting the stand to work better.

It needs to go to someone who can fix it.
It can be done. Skill and knowledge are required.

On the other hand, some c/stands will be beyond salvation....... but even they can be fixed.

Finding a s/hand stand in reasonable condition could save a lot of trouble.

Failing that, your c/stand will need to come off and be repaired. It is only made from mild steel.
Two things on the c/stand fail, the main bolt holes and the very top of the stand where it contacts the stop.

They're not the best of stands when in good working order, but aren't they a pos when worn out.

I fixed my 81 stand a while back, easier to get up on the stand and a ride off stand when I'm loaded for touring.

Can you take it off and show some pics?

The '81-82 stands were badly designed...pivot point was lowered to clear the crossover. BMW came out with a kit for it, but is NLA, kit was 46-52-9-056-256. By '84, the stands were "fixed". You could go aftermarket, like a Reynolds which doesn't require the bike to be lifted completely. I know, I know...the Reynolds is a love it-hate it thing...

Just get the correct Reynold's Ride Off stand for your bike. It will be far more stable and very easy to put up. It can be done without any hands.

The disadvantage is that in hard cornering, it will drag first.
