2 Million Mile BMW Ladies...

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

None of you understand irony.

Vanzen, "ASSumes" was rude.

I'm sorry none of you seem to get it, but every "criticism" brought up by the rest of you, is exactly what I was parodying. Men are called "Ladies" or "Girls" when they are judged to be inadequate. Using the word "men" the way I did is intended to comment on that, and exactly the points the rest of you brought up.

Like I said, you don't get it. Helen does not have my history, so I forgive her error. What she was reading was out of context. She does not know me, and there was no way for her to know. I was writing for this audience: people who should have enough of my opinions on gender under their belt to not make such an error.

Shame on you all.

Is it too late to say I got it? I was just more interested in where Chuey was going. And no, Chuey, I did not think you were in any way putting down their accomplishments.

I'm a bit surprised that Vanzen took it so seriously, or at least it looks serious to me.

Don't you do that on bicycles? The only difference is the distance and the speed.
I do a little bit. Most of my riding is commuting. I do take my mountain bike to the trailhead and ride from there. That's my favorite riding; offroad. I am admittedly a low mileage kind of guy. That point gets driven home often in the work I do. One of my customers just came back from Paris-Brest-Paris, a 750+ mile ride that he completed in 88hours. He is not the super athlete that that would indicate. He used to be obese and took up cycling to lose weight. He's still not svelte but he ain't obese any longer.

I have been taking Major Softie's posts and particularly his chiding of me to be typical jiving around and harmless. If you notice, he did directly call me a pussy. To dissect the use of that word the way it is used, would show that it is in the same vein as using the word dick to describe someone. It really has nothing to do with those precious parts that we all so much deify. OK, it has a root in those parts (I'm cracking myself up here) but the way they're being used does not directly reflect those particular parts.

Back to MS calling me a pussy. Would you take that lying down? Neither would I. I had to make some kind of an attempt to defuse that.

As far as the issue of who has pussy and who does not, that wasn't even close to being discussed.

In my first post on this thread, I think I did a good job of presenting my perspective on these mileage contests. I'm very interested in doing high mileage but do not relate as much to doing it for the sake of it as I do for actually getting somewhere. At some point, it can become, in my mind, a glorification of burning gas.

Someone I know has given me a couple issues of Hot Rod magazine. In the last one I saw, it featured some kind of road tour of gas guzzlers (mostly). There were captions printed in BOLD letters on each page, as magazines do, to provoke interest on the part of the reader. One of them said something to the effect that they were "Al Gore's ultimate nightmare" and this was said with a sense of pride. My take on it was that if you want to hang with a bunch of motorheads and you can afford to spend your money to buy gas so that you can show off your 8mpg muscle bomb, fine, but in my mind, it's a waste of gas. (This last paragraph has been put here so you can more easily understand my outlook.)

Wow, I didn't know that 'ladies' was derogatory.

What will they do now at formal functions? 'Good evening women and gentlemen'?

Even when I stuck up for women, It's not good enough.

If we were talking about men doing 1 million miles, I would have said they were courageous, but we weren't talking about men.

To be completely accurate, I called us ALL pussies.

That's because, just like the rest of us: you are a pussy.
Dude, in my world, that is calling me a pussy.....directly. As you can see, I really don't have a problem with it, but it is direct and the word "you" in your statement makes my statement true. That may make me self centered as in not focusing on you calling all of us here pussies, but you did call me a pussy. I even love the word.

I am not claiming I did not call you a pussy, I am merely pointing out that, by leaving out that I included ALL of us, your statement was not as completely accurate as it could be.

You, know, as one pussy to another...
