New Build Valve Clearances

That's one definition I've heard. I'm sure we can find varying definitions, but, to my understanding, a "motor" is just the part that makes power. A gasoline "engine" has a motor, an alternator, a water-pump, etc., and they are all part of the engine. Obviously an electric motor has none of the ancillaries that make up a gasoline engine.

Boy, that motor/engine thing is weird. Some people are real particular about it and others, some of them hot stuff, call them motors. I guess I'm particular when the words are likely to cause confusion but calling the thing with the pistons in it a motor doesn't seem so bad. I think there's a company near me called "San Diego Motor Machine" and they do machine work on piston driven engines.

New or old, I adjust them to spec. although on a new engine (a motor is an electric thing, eh ?)
lash will be re-checked frequently starting at @ 100 miles after the build ...

That's what I do too. When the rockers start getting too quiet... I take a look. You also want to make sure you're getting proper lubrication. BMW is playing it safe, because they know that most owners of new bikes wouldn't check the valves that soon.
