The CS was the same bike as the RS, just with a different fairing. It ran from 81 to 84 (?) and had the same compresion as the RS for your country and had a rear disc. They also had an R100CS label on the tail section rather than R100. Not many made it over to this side of the Atlantic.

If I recall correctly, the R100CS (Classic Sport) was BMWs post '80 iteration of the R100S. As such it featured the big valve 70 bhp engine (instead of the 67bhp unit as fitted to the R100), wire wheels and the familiar cockpit fairing. I rode one of these back to back with one of the last R100S bikes made and it picked up much quicker in comparison while the Brembos and drum rear meant it actually had brakes that worked. I'm pretty sure the post '80 RS had snowflakes and a rear disc as standard...

Yep. The CS was essentially a RS but in S form. ...S fairing, drum rear, but could have either wire wheels or snowflakes. Previously I had always thought the CS had a rear disc, but maybe my memory isn't right. Skimming net shots supports the drum as stock. Here's one blokes blog re: a CS restoration.

Has anyone here had an F650 Funduro or ST (2000 or earlier)?
They were the twin carb twin plug version with the Rotax engine.

A freind's brother has a 2004 or 5 http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/specpages/F650CS.htm that he traded in an 84 RS to buy. He realy likes it for the twisty slow backroads that he rides. Spectacular fuel economy, light and easy to use.

The 90's carbed versions where re-baged Aprillias and have totaly bomb proof reputation. The only complaint seems to be that they need steering head bearings early. (What is it with BMW and steering head bearings. :roll: )

Those bikes carried their oil in the frame with the dipstick right behind the steering head. Unless a good high temperature grease was used, the heat melted it and the bearings got starved of lubrication.

hi to all, regarding the cs rear brakes i have a old revs m/c magazine with a road test on the cs . it shows drum brakes on the rear and spoked wheels, always liked the look of it. still do

I recall seeing a Craiglist add for an 84 CS Final Edition not that long ago. Could have sworn it had a rear disc, but that does not mean that it CAME with a rear disc.

hi garnet, not sure either way, but the aussie bike mag that i have only shows drum brakes on the rear , but then the x cops bikes R100RT use to have rear disc brakes so i suppose it is possible to convert it over. but what do i know ive only got a crappy old 1975 bm !
