Canadian GSA owner

Post by Zombie Master »

I met a nice fellow at the auto parts store yesterday. He was riding a year old GSA1200 so naturally we started to talk. He bought the bike in Kentucky off the ADV rider site for half what he would have paid for a new one and it was fully farkeled.

I asked about his warranty. He said that he went to the local BMW dealer who said he could have his warranty as long as they performed a $500. inspection! WTF! I'm removing my roundels!

It could turn out to be a cheap insurance plan.

What's the normal warranty for that bike from new? Here, in Oz, the warranty is transferable.
Not sure 'bout cross borders?

Lost in Translation?

Just wonder if he meant the Dealer needed to perform $500 worth of service to bring it into warranty compliance :?:

In the U.S., no such things can be required, but that's not the case in all countries. Even here, if you don't do the required service, and something breaks, if it can be blamed on the lack of service, they can deny that warranty claim, but it doesn't void the whole warranty.

In many other countries, the manufacturer can require service to be performed by a manufacturer's dealership, or the warranty is void. This is also not allowed in the U.S.. I don't know what the laws are in Canadai.
