My speedo and tach have resumed "bouncing" (not wildly yet but Matt told me that fixing them now will be MUCH cheaper than waiting until they "sprung").
So who do I send them to for rebuilds?
Can the mileage be maintained?
Will I get new needles (they are "curved" up)?
Will I get new light-lenses (mine are faded)?
How much will this cost me?
Please tell me your rebuild-stories (good, bad or otherwise).
As of now it looks like it's down to either Foreign in Austin, Texas or Palo Alto

Palo Alto does great work, but you're probably looking at somewhere around $400 for each unit.

"Foreign" in Austin? Is that Overseas Speedometer? Or is that Foreign Speedometer in San Diego?
I'd put Palo Alto at the bottom of the list based upon the recommendations on the Airlist. North Hollywood seems to be better than PA. I'd certainly consider Overseas.

I have had my speedo/tach unit serviced by Palo Alto. I told them to only replace what was necessary and they did a good job. I plan on sending them my unit for my "75 Moto Guzzi this winter as well.

Just a thought (if they are asking $300 to rebuild them) you can get a new repro for $327.75 from Ulis: http://www.ulismotorradladen.de/englisch/englisch.htm

Repros usually make better fiscal sense. Places like Palo Alto make sense for restoration of valuable bikes where original equipment is of more importance than simple functionality.

Palo Alto did mine about 10 years ago. It came out beautiful. Needles are starting to curve up again.
Original mileage maintained.
my only complaint is that the lighting somehow changed. When riding at night now, I can barely see the tach or speedo. Palo Alto swears they changed nothing and I'm using the stock oem bulbs.
Very expensive though, about $400-$500 bucks.

If they're just bouncing, it sounds to me like you might only need new speedo and tach cables. Piece of cake to replace and a lot cheaper than a rebuild. Although you'll still have faded indicators and your old needles. I replaced mine last year and both my needles, which were in great shape, are steady...almost too steady, actually.
