I waited until this morning before work to try to sort the turn signal wire. Out in the garage, I dismounted the switch from the clutch perch and all the wires looked fine and dandy.

Here's where I'd like to say I often shake my head in wonder at magazines that review BMWs and the most important criticism they lob is that the turn signal switches not being "normal" is a huge deal. I see it as a small deal. Well, it got me! You see, on this bike, the turn signal switch is not on the clutch side. It is on the throttle side.

Since this electrical mystery has been solved without disconnecting even a single wire or breaking out the multi-meter, which I am certainly underqualified to use, it has boosted my confidence. I see myself offering helpful hints to all those who come here with electrical woes. :)

Chuey, the motto in medicine is "see one, do one, teach one", and if that's good enough for training surgeons it will surely work for us amateur airhead technicians.

I remain indebted to Airbear for the superb '74 R90S wiring diagram he has produced. It has saved me from taking my bike to a professional electrician, supported my slow but steady learning of my bike's electrical systems and, laminated and printed in A3, looks great pinned to the cork board in my garage.
