GS Paralever engine mount spacer locations help needed.

Post by Matt »

So the Veg came over tonight to help me ease the replacement motor into my GS. We discussed the state of the world and one thing I forgot to pay attention during dis-assembly was what order the spacers go in between the engine and frame. I appears I have one extra wide one and 3 skinnier ones.
Anyone help me shed light on which corner the fat one goes???

& I admit. I was tearing the bike apart and removed the motor by myself and didnt pay attention to where each spacer went.
I've got my suspicions but would love verification from someone with an assembled bike.

thanks.

Why not find another skinny one and smoke the fat one?

I don't know the answer but if it is too long in coming there are two things that come to mind. The Clymer book sometimes has diagrams that are good enough to tell that kind of thing. And a straight edge held against either the engine bosses or the frame bosses should tell the story. There should be one side where they line up and one where they don't.

I hope that helps.

(Edit:) I just looked it up in my Clymer. Page 675. It clearly shows one spacer being thicker but I can't tell the orientation front or rear. Having the bike may help with that.

I would prefer ME 109's solution, but the physics just won't work.

The fat spacer is at the left front on my GS.

The fat one goes to the front.

There are three 6mm spacers and one 9mm. The thick one goes in the left front.
Same for all post '81 airheads.
