The only advantage is one that you imagine, such as cool, cooler or other.
there are a lot of disadvantages, some mentioned. Drain your wallet for bling.
We saw a lot of them way back in the day. They are trouble, most already mentioned. Some then start mounting temp guages etc. Now more trouble with electrics.

OK to answer some questions, the battery is a Shorai Lithium Iron (weighs just 1.4 lbs) and is mounted under the seat hump on a bracket I made, Lesters are on it now but I also have set of SS spoked stock wheels with powder coated gloss black hubs, Raask rear sets with a pair of passenger pegs mounted to the rear motor mounts
(not as young as I think I am!!). Rear fender is a cut down stock unit, just eyeballed and Dremeled.

I had a Briel oil cooler and you're right. They're very heavy, so I ended up selling mine to a sidecar guy.
The MAC's oil sumps are a well known part. They work quite well and have done so for at least 25 years. The loss of road clearance isn't much of a problem, as long as you aren't jumping logs but there is a better solution.
IMO, the way to go is to look for a complete R100 RS/RT oil cooler system, add the lower cross tube to your /6 frame and then just install the new/used parts.
The factory parts make for a very clean installation and you can be assured that they will work as designed.
The other thing to do might be to simply quit worrying about it. I rode my R90 for some 200K+ miles in all traffic and weather conditions without any problems. An R100 OTOH, is another matter entirely, because they tend to run much hotter. In that case, nickasil cyls are a big help but even with those, my oil cooler is open and flowing at sustained highway speeds of 80 mph or so. The main cost is the added complication. They do need to be serviced correctly.
If you want or need the R100 style frame tube to install a cooler, I have a few on the shelf or you can get your local fab guy to bend one up for you.

that an extended sump functions to reduce engine/oil temps.
the misguided notion of filling that sump with "an extra quart of oil",
and an overwhelming propensity to pitch the baby with the bath water -
The extra volume provided by that extended sump serves well
to reduce crankcase pressures at high-RPM.
Given the mechanical operating nature of the horizontally opposed twin "pump",
This fact might be appreciated and remains as one proven advantage.

Is anybody still selling the Briel type sump extension? I'm finding the straight extension (without the cooling tubes), but not finding the type with cooling tubes.
