Ride up Saddle Road through Waikii Ranch

Post by Deleted User 62 »

Yet another riding video of the Saddle Road, done with a Drift HD170 camera. It starts just past the "GS"ing section (very rough pavement) up through the Waikii Ranch (red roof buildings) and on up to the ridgeline of Mauna Kea (through some of the most fun twisty sections on the island) and ends with a view of Mauna Loa to the south. I shot this one in High Definition, a mistake as it really doesn't come through on Youtube and takes forever to load, but I hope it's worth it: http://youtu.be/gHIEkTiR8f8

A lovely ride, Tim. Thanks. It'd be heaps better in HD. Do you have a mate with a website where you could post it for downloading?

Hey Jeff, we could do a vid on that lovely 'coast' road along the northern arm of Lake Hume. It doesn't get much better than that. Maybe get the Reverend Brother Kenneth involved and do it at a time when the kangaroos are all at home watching teevee.

I got kangaroos all over the place at the moment Charlie. Yesterday a full grown buck hopped his way through my back yard between the house and the pool. Ya get that here.
Yeah I've been wanting to get out on the bike and do a bit 'o filming. I bought a Gopro hd 2 motorsport thingy a month or so ago and haven't really had the opportunity to wack it on my helmet and go for a blast.
I've had it on a head band and gone for a swim in the seement pond to try it out.......there's a few options of resolutions and angle of views etc to figure out.
I tried to upwnload some hd vision to youtube the other day and the puter told me to come back in a fortnight!
Gotta work that one out.
Gotta work out the optimal mic setup as well. I'm thinking a split mic system with one near the rear of the seat and another somewhere near the airbox...........

Jeff, the trick is to film it at 720p and twenty something frames per second. Youtube really slows down when you go up to 1070p and 60fps. I tried to load one of my longer HD videos last night and they said it would take 1750 minutes. Also, I think you're limited to 12 minute video (got to figure out that Movie Maker thingie on my 'puter!)

Funny, Garnet!

I haven't had my camera out for a couple of weeks but from memory, 1080 30 fps @ 170 degree feild of view is the best pic, at least for playback on a hd tv.
Limited testing has shown lower resolutions to become grainy.
There are ways to down load and manipulate the footage to make it easy for uploading while retaining full hd. I've read a few web sites relating to this so it's a matter of learning how to do it.
Apparently I can upload a 15 minute video to youtube.

Maybe I read that vimeo was an easier site to upload to............
