There is a wire clip to hold the brake cable, part #32731230976, or #6 in this photo from the MaxBMW fiche: Battery ground goes to the vent/bolt that holds the speedo cable to the transmission (don't over tighten it!). The felt pieces help keep water out of your cables.

I don't have one on mine, but I believe it attaches to the triple tree clamping bolt.

The grommet just above the clip should be inside the clip.

i don't know if you've ridden many of these old girls, but i just love riding mine - smooth yet purposeful, a real limousine of the old order... I'm sure you too will enjoy it even more once it's on the road again.

now: can you tell me where you got those mirrors? Me too, love the look!

Got a few things done this week. Installed the Albert mirrors, Installed a new center stand, Rub N buff'd the starter cover and repainted the engine badges.

I love the look of these mirrors.

I hated to do it but I actually took the front end apart after those last pictures yesterday. So it is torn down pretty well right now . I am replacing the top fork brace with a Tony Tan fork brace, changing the gaiters to 13 rib gaiters and once that is done trying to see why I have so much stiction. I had new fork tubes and wipers etc.. I read on Snow Bums tech site that the new wipers are not made right so I may take the forks apart again and install the old wipers.

Remember, just installing the front axle can push the fork sliders together, causing stiction. BMW recommends holding the front brake and working the front suspension up and down before tightening the axle clamp bolt. I have found that the slider is fairly easy to move around on the new greased stainless axle of my /5.

Well I think it was something to do with the way it was mounted. With everything removed, the sliders seem to move up and down smoothly. One thing I checked last night is the fender brace. When held flush to a piece of glass it has a slight movement. Is it possible to straighten these? Maybe I can put it in a vise and try and tweak it slightly. I am glad I am taking them apart though because the forks were the first thing I ever did, years ago and I want to double check my work and make sure that good enough back than is good today.

Yes, the fender brace can be bent back into alignment. That slight rocking translates to a big difference down at the bottom end of the forks. Be careful though, it doesn't take much effort to bend it.
