Clutches and gearboxes

Post by hools100RS »

I'm considering converting a '76 R100S to take later '81 lightweight clutch assembly. My question is ; will such a conversion require the use of a post '81 gearbox (with it's shorter input splines)?I have /5 4speed 'box that will sit behind the standard '76 clutch OK but I'm unsure of how to proceed gearbox wise if I go the post '81 clutch route. :?: Comments appreciated. hools.

Yup, the later model clutch/flywheel assembly will require the correct transmission. Alternatively, you could open the older transmission up and swap out the input shaft. I think that's a can o' worms, though.

I could be wrong, but I thought it was the introduction of the mono-shock models that brought the shorter input shaft change?

It began when they went to the lighter clutch/flywheel assembly. That was with the '81 models.
