NOW I did it. 1977 R100S ATE caliper. Replacing the solid brake line and apparently cross threaded the fitting into the caliper. Anyone know an easy way out????? New ones are $700 +/- EACH.

I don't know if a helicoil would work/be safe on a brake caliper. I would look for someone locally or on a forum, with a parts bike or check ebay, you could probably find one for cheaper.

Re: ATE Caliper cross thread.
A guy here at work wants to try a tap to reconstruct the threads. I don't know if there is any room at the bottom of the hole to allow a tap to get deep enough but it's worth a try........I guess.

You can always grind off the end of the tap and turn it into a bottoming tap.
Smile it's contagious!
