pawl spring broke
pawl spring broke
I removed the transmission from my 1974 R90S to find out that the pawl spring is broke and this is why I had to drive home in 2nd gear. Where can I purchase a new spring and do they make an upgrade to this transmission. This spring that broke is way to small for what it does. I hate to put it back together like this again. This bike only has 21,000 miles on it.
Thanks Mark

Re: pawl spring broke
Bugger.
Far too common unfortunately. It's happened 3 times to me over the years. I knew a guy that had the trans from hell, doing 5 springs, all covered under warranty. That was 1981.
The springs are cheap, so any dealer should have them. I believe the design was improved.
Welcome btw.

Re: pawl spring broke
Do they sell an improved version or larger spring? I read where they improved the design but I can't find anywhere if the new design was for the 1974 or where to get it
Re: pawl spring broke
I think what they sell these days is only the new and improved springs.
#4, #7, are consistent pn's thru the range even to the late 1970's R100RS.
#17 was changed in mid 1975...different pn and I can't tell you why or what else changed. If you spend some time looking thru the fiche you might get more info. Any dealer should be able to get them pronto.
