So anybody out there got 13"x12mm engine mount stud??....compensation of course

Maybe check with the local cycle shop (my mates) he'sa got tons of Jap stuff out back...maybe find one that way.

Kinda liking the bungee cure for the sacked centre stand springs though....went to local Timmy's for coffee and noticed all these "pirates" mulling around the bike....I approached the biggest pirate...he just wanted to know what the hell the bike was that just blew them off a few minutes earlier...ummm...its a 35 year old BMW....then asked me what the bungee was for...I said its for passing....stored up kinetic energy ya know....we all had a good laugh

The pirates were in front of me on the way into Timmy's...in their "pirate" formation..ya know...double across about 8 cruisers and doing about 90kph...I was in my sweet spot in 4th gear just puliong about 4000 rpm...lotsa jump at that point so just pinned it and ...whoosh....it was over...I waved after I blew them off...respect ya know

For us old geezers riding geezer bikes it has become a sporting event on our weekly rides....finding the "pirates"...sneaking up on them...then....whoosh .....all over...
I will have time tomorrow to look for a 13" motor mount for you.

Duane thanks, but not necessary now. with help from inmate tagordon I was able to finally get the Brown on. Sliding the left side exhaust hanger forward and adjusting the right side nut to give me more room on the left for the ss, it all worked. :D

I think I'm going to still take off 2-3mm off the Brown mount plate just so I get all threads covered by the nuts. Right now got 2-3 threads still showing on the left but think either remove wave washers both sides would give me the room but better still will take it off the ss mount bracket and leave wave washers on and do what they were designed for!

FWIW, I measured the 78 engine studs incorrectly..they are appro 13" ...while the 83 donor bike 12"...guess to allow for footpeg mounts on 78.

Don't like ss generally but centre stand springs sack so gonna remove until get new ones...ss and chunk of 2x4 will work for now

I Love Happy Endings!
You can order those springs from Max's BMW for approx $5.00USD each + shipping.

Bob's or San Jose BMW probably as 'em also. I buy form Max's because they always put a package of M&M's in with my order. Also they have always helped me with finding the elusive parts I wanted.

Duane. I could use a 237mm engine bolt if you have one to spare.

Yeah, thanks for the help!

I've never used Max..should give them a try I guess. I'm in Canukistan and amazingly I get an order from motobins in about 5-7 days but since Max in NH maybe give them a shot and see how it goes...sometimes deliveries from US to Can can be irritatingly long...don't no why...customs I think slows it up.

Goota tell ya, I really miss the centre stand already...never have been without one and prefer them to the sidestand...O well, its on and time for another shakedown cruise. Thanks again.

who offers the brown side stand for our bikes? I know my original side stand is pretty well for show as apparently the PO just left in down and let it hit the ground to pop it up! The metal is so fatigues I never use it as it seems a recipe for a bike laying on the ground even on perfectly flat ground on a windless day. While yes, I understand Google and can and will use it, any suggestions from those that have made the conversion with regard to a vendor what still sells the conversion(s)? Are they obsolete now? All I know is that many think they are far superior - and I can say with mine having about the strength of lead, anything would be an upgrade!

I could weld the foot and other areas up on it, but I don't think I'll ever have a scrap of confidence in what I have - not to mention sometimes getting the oil to drip unto the carb on uneven pavement. It would be interesting if anyone had good experiences to share about where they purchased their Brown's side stands from, rather than a Google crap-shoot.

Thanks, sorry if this is a bit of deviation from the OP's post as far as fitment. Thank you all in advance. Getting excited for hopefully some winter building going on with this bike!

Will a Browns stand flip you off, if one is silly enough to ride off with the stand side down?

What happens when a Browns stand hits the ground in such an event?

One good thing about a flogged out oe stand is that it is very useful on uneven ground! Sometimes.

Yeah, well II can see that point, and as well could likely discreetly weld the trashed one up from the backside, but there is little left of the "business end" that is supposed to contact the pavement - - after using it for a couple gas type stops where I was paying at the pump and seeing the broken/fatigued "foot" widen and bend as the bike leaned further and further. At that point I made a new rule to always use the center-stand, which normally I would anyway... But in making such a "rule" why not just cut the entire side stand off - if I have sworn never to use it?

If that makes any sense... Which I know, I often do not.

Going to Tim Horton.... not OK. Didn't you read Neil Grahams tirade against bad coffee in Cycle Canada?

Get yourself together man. We are supposed to be the Uber riders, gentleman on well serviced steeds who will not accept mediocrity or in Timmy's case bloody crap!
Got it...the springs are pretty pooched although they kinda hold it up...bungee is security until I can get new springs...maybe tuff tie better but permanent....then I do have to carry the 2x4 for the side stand

Nope...you left coasters and coffee....

Ah but this is the "pirates" haven..."poser" parking lot ya know....we scout them out there to see what group will be the next on our list...Timmys does have its advantages

We're heading west in Sept to visit our youngest daughter in Vancouver then over to Salt Spring to visit our bestest friends and sample the "aroma" and coffee of old Ganges. Driving our friend's car out to SSI then taking the train home...should be fun...I'll keep an eye open for a super cool uber dude riding his gentleman steed as we motor on the big island up to Tofino for a few days...never been there and looks like a beautiful spot...

My friend and I hope to do some motorbike touring as well on the Island...don't know what Jim has got for a rider but...I asked if his buddies Duc might be avaialable...ha ha...ouldl be fun on that machine eh?

I got my form Bobs. Works well but I don't like the single bolt mount.
