I thought I would fix the bike in TX and ride to the rally but I didnt notice that some idiot had hammered the exhaust nuts off the heads ruining both heads. The bike had received the $2000 o-ring job and ruined the crank. I got a bottom end from Martindale Motor Works, went home, and took the bike apart.... time goes by.
I got all the new parts i needed from Blue Moon Cycle in Norcross, Ga. I stripped the bike & started cleaning. The Veg came over one night and helped me with some wiring and we had beer. I got the new bottom end in the frame & even attached the pistons and cylinders.... time goes by.
Then I get motivated. Sort of. I start hunting more parts. I get the GS rolling and take it to a friends shop in AL where I know I can overcome any pitfall. I discover a friend in Atlanta has a matching solo seat for my Bumblebee GS, I obtain that, I replace the left head only to discover at the 11 hour that I have a mismatched head! I race back to GA and have my head fixed overnight. My head guy in GA btw can repair heads even do exhaust threads for me in a hurry. I run back to AL and I finish assembling the bike.
*voila* the bike starts right up. ITs fairy tuned and running. The reason i bought this bike is it was priced right. I found the driveshaft had been replaced and even has serviceable u-joints in it. I was also told the gearbox had been overhauled and received the input shaft circlip mod. Its even got a light weight Motorrad Elektrik starter, diode board, and Dyna coil in it. I went so far as to buy a Ballistic dry battery for it. 3lbs, and comes with a 10 yr life expectancy...
So I run the bike. The gearbox is pretty noisy in neutral. I haven't figured out who did the gearbox. It looks as though the gearbox door has been replaced. Its noisy. Works fine but makes noise. What to do?
The brakes and the forks seem to be just fine. So far so good. I haven't put many miles on the bike, I have yet to put a tag on it as its only been a few days since I got it started. Then the testing and training will begin. Ive got a set of R80G/S serrated foot pegs to install on my R100GS. I'm not sure Ive got the pieces right yet. Anyone done this mod to their GS? The cast aluminum rubber covered K bike style foot pegs are what I consider "street only" foot pegs and Ive got to get this peg change completed asap. The bike also has the stainless y-pipe replacing the 3rd volume 2 into one collector box between the headers and the muffler. Otherwise outwardly this GS looks pretty stock. Oh and this bike came with a set of Happy Trails aluminum saddle bags.
I'll update as I ride and mod this bike.
Things remaining on my to do list include.....
DOT knobbie tires
handlebar control protectors(bark busters)
Aftermarket rear shock
upgraded skid plate
taller handlebar risors for stand up riding comfort
gold fork valve upgrade
what else?
ALSO, does anyone have a BMW. tank bag base for an R100GS?
I need one I have a GSPD tank bag base to trade or sell if anyone is interested.
Thats it in a nut shell.
Here is a pic....
