I've heard that Waltzing Matilda was written as socialist political allegory. Apparently, during the Great Shearer's Strike in the 1890s the premier of Queensland brought in the military to deal with the strikers. There were some nasty and violent confrontations and at one sheep station (ranch) a unionist set fire to a shearing shed. When confronted by the owner of the station and three troopers at a nearby waterhole he shot himself rather than face prison. The 1890s was was a time of terrible drought and economic depression, and saw the rise of union power and socialist ideals - it was all part of the 'bush ethos' of mateship and concern for the underdog. A bloke named 'Banjo' Patterson wrote the song.

After all the ravings... I settled on the "Oztrail Bikers Swag" for $120, seems the most compact
out of all the ones I looked at, 50cms long when rolled up and not that high off bike,weighs in at 5kg
and has a 5cm high density mattress. Will throw my sleeping bag in & small self inflating pillow
and thats me sorted! one neat package.. ah, and it has plenty of ventilation, 3/4 insect mesh top
& same each end.

ha ha!, yeh I'm only a small tacka!.. the Swagroll lays 500mm across my bike, my leather
throwovers are wider than that when full off gear.

Just had a thought. If a swag had two holes in the end for yer feet to poke out, it would be very easy to get up in the middle of the night to move away from the snoring bastard.
