Re: Southeast Oz gathering
"... total fire ban."... hrumph!... two inches of snow up in the hills last night... so much for summer.
Re: Southeast Oz gathering
I was up there two weekends back and it was fantastic weather. Other years, same weekend, it can be snow, sleet and rain coming in sideways so that visibility is arms length. The orange alpine road markers become invisible. Still, this weekend looks the goods weather wise.DucatiPete wrote:"... total fire ban."... hrumph!... two inches of snow up in the hills last night... so much for summer.

Any and all disclaimers may apply
Re: Southeast Oz gathering
Subject to satisfactorily completing some domestic negotiations about mowing etc, I'm planning to be on the road on Friday evening with the intention of finding a no camping spot to spend the night "not camping" and then on up to Swampy Plains on Saturday.
I am planning to ride up with my mate Dean who deems to find satisfaction in a CB 400 screamer. Despite that, I hope that he will be welcome and may even be converted by the experience of a herd of boxers....
At least it doesnt seem that we are going to fry on the way up!!!

Excellent, Doug. Dean and his Honda will be most welcome. Weather is looking very nice indeed - today a perfect 26, tomorrow a perfect 29, etc. The only blot is a possible shower on Sunday morning.Doug wrote:Subject to satisfactorily completing some domestic negotiations about mowing etc, I'm planning to be on the road on Friday evening with the intention of finding a no camping spot to spend the night "not camping" and then on up to Swampy Plains on Saturday.

Laverda Lex and his eye-talian moll are due here today and we'll head up Friday morning. You may find you can get there Friday night, depending on your departure time. If camping, I can suggest the Cotton Tree Reserve about 2kms west of Granya township. You'll have to take your own 'No Camping' sign unfortunately, but it's a lovely spot. There's a dunny there and a picnic table and fireplace (usually with supplied firewood). It will put you close to the Lake Hume coast so you can go out through Walwa (the preferred route). Have a great and safe ride.

Re: Southeast Oz gathering
Laverda Lex has reported in sick, but might make it eventually. Since I'm packed and ready to ride that's what I'm going to do. It's a fekkin' cracker of a day. See yez there, gents.

As usual, a splendid gathering.
Followed by taking the long way home through the mountains on Sunday.
Heaps of roos around the camp site, Jim caught a couple of trout. I drank 10 beers and didn't see a fish.
I think there were about 12 of us there, including three youngins'
