DYNA III question

Post by beemersanducs »

Hi all, in the instructions it says to "bend the metal bands to restrict the weights movement" I'm not sure what to do here, could anyone who has installed a DYNA please enlighten me? Thanks

I've installed a Dyna III on my R100/7. I recall nothing about "bend the metal bands . . ." I have no idea what they're talking about because I remember no "metal bands". But since they're talking about "weights movement" they have to be talking about the stock centrifugal weights. And that would be to alter the timing curve. If you're still running single plug ignition I can see no particular reason to alter the timing. Dual plugs would be another story.

Since I can't help, I'll indulge in a small rant. I no longer run the Dyna on my /7. It left me stranded twice, once on the road in the heat of the summer, then again in the comfort of my shop. That was the last straw for me, even though I was comfortable in my shop.

Other beefs are that the rotating unit that mounts to the points cam can come loose if you don't install it just right. And for me it also restricted the advance. It would have been good for Dyna to talk about that a little in the instructions. My other beef is that the 2 sensors have to be moved to get the timing marks on top of each other. The problem is that the mounting of the sensors to the plate is very fiddly. To move one or the other requires you to loosen the mounting screw(s) realign the little bugger. Other people here have talked about having no problem getting the timing marks on top of each other. They are better than me.

Psst, anybody want to buy a good Dyna III--except for the electrical module?

Ken

They're talking about the 2 strips of metal near the pivots on the advance mechanism. You're supposed to bend them in slightly to press on and created a little friction on the advance weights. Not sure why this is necessary, maybe it slows down the advance a little...again, not sure why.
