That was a very good read Garnet. Very comprehensive. When I read authoritative stuff on various web pages I usually seem to go in with a slightly jaundiced attitude. I didn't come out with it this time though--well, except maybe for ever so slight traces here and there.

I wondered why they mispelled "Mapp" gas, so I looked it up to make sure I was spelling it right. I learned they no longer produce Mapp gas, and the Bernzomatic stuff is "MapD" or fake Mapp gas, which doesn't get as hot.

Isn't that interesting! Mapp gas hasn't been on my radar since I have an oxy-acetylene outfit. I never had a Mapp gas torch because I didn't need it. But I've certainly found that a propane torch is seriously lacking in heat for many applications.

It makes me wonder why Mapp gas was taken off the market. Carcinogenic? Global warming? Users' children being born naked? (OK. That last one was a little dumb. But I needed a third possible reason to make the wording flow right, and couldn't come up with anything better.)

I have a 16" Parabellum and am about 5'10" tall. I use K "S" bars on the bike. I like the Parabellum. Most of my other bikes are naked and I like the wind, but If you're looking for more quiet / calm, I'd get the taller (18 or 20") screen.

Garnet, that was a good article on windscreens- very in depth. Thanks for the link.

I laid out my stock RS windscreen on the floor next to the Low (16") Parabellum windscreen, (I don't know why I didn't think of this before). The stock windscreen rises 6.25" from the floor (maybe the edging I bought will add another 0.25") and the Parabellum windscreen rises 10.5" from the floor. I think with the extra inches and the vent (which is supposed to reduce turbulence) of the Parabellum may solve my bug collecting problem and it may help reduce the helmet buffeting and noise.

I'll keep you fellows posted when I get back on the road this Spring.

This is a pet peeve of mine.

I'm fairly certain there was no rider involved in that now infamous wind tunnel testing of the rs fairing. Either that or s/he was a horse jockey.( I may have posited this before; if so- apologies for being redundant)

For me, the laminar lip increased wind buffeting if anything. Got a set of barbacks to try, more to relieve the numb hands/aching back syndrome than anything.

Funny thing is, I love riding "naked".

When I had my LT and had the screen in full up position the buffeting was still there.

Got a faired Suzuki Bandit. The buffeting was so bad the only way to stop this was to take the fairing off altogether. At speed I am in a pocket of stillish air created by the headlamp and instrument pods. Now i never want a fairing again on any bike I own.
