Before someone clued me in about these very nifty "helping hands" at Harbor Freight, I made my own by epoxying a couple wooden clothes pins to craft (popsicle) sticks. I still have one in my tool box.

. . . I also have a few Weller soldering pencils which I use for very delicate jobs when I don't mind waiting for the soldering pencil to heat up.

No need to wait beyond seconds if you have a propane torch. Heat the tip of the "pensil" for a few seconds and you're good to go.

Propane torches are also very useful for relighting cigars that have one out. No namby pamby cigarette lighters for me. But you must use discretion. If the cigar is very short you risk singing your moustache. And that burnt hair smell is literally under your nose and lasts a pretty long time.

Congratulations, you're BOTH right! (but I only noticed "gunl" the first time I read the post)

I'm thinking I should get a new gun instead of a pencil. I looked at Sears and they can cost quite a bit. I'd rather not buy a tool that is barely adequate for the job, though. Then you have to buy one that actually works.

As for taking the spade connectors out of the plug assembly, I have decided to buy a better quality plug type and replace both halves. That way, the connection will be more weather tight and I won't have any halfway wrecked terminal connections to deal with. The kind I'm getting is the type that uses the hollow ice pick type tool, which I have.

It's so much fun making incremental changes in the Cafe' bike.
