Handlebar MC size for a 1974 R90S and a 1977 RS

Post by Armaguidon13 »

Hello

I've got a 15mm handlebar MC on my 74 R90S (38mm calipiers), the feeling is too stiff break lever
I've got also a 77 RS that I want to pot with a BMW handlebar MC and in my parts a 14mm and a 16mm

What could be the best setup ? (with SS lines for all bikes) : 15mm For the RS with 40mm calipiers and 14mm for the 90S with 38mm calipiers ?

Thanks

Hi Mick.

My 11/1981 R100RS had the 15mm mc and I found it wooden and prone to locking. It's been a feature on every R100 I've ever owned...15mm/wooden feel.

I changed it to a 13mm setup from a later mono and the lever is now more progressive in feel. It moves further, and that is something to get acquainted with, but doesn't take long.

I'd ebay the 16mm, and find a 13 or 14mm.

I guess renovating the system with new lines and seals etc might be worth to do first. Then assess to see if there are improvements, then decide, might be worthwhile.
Cheers, Steve

Hello Steve

For all the lines I use Goodrige SS lines
Steel tube on the fork leg
SS line (with a black color to respect the look)
stell tubes to a BMW spliter and a SS line from the splitter to the handlebar MC

So I'll try in first the 14mm on the 90S with 38mm calipiers pistons (Now runs a 15mm)
and put the 15mm on the RS

The 16mm will go for Ebay or other free advertising
