Just back from a glorious 3 days riding around the Snowy Mountains here in SE Oz. This is Jeff, Charlie and Bob's back yard as they live pretty close. It's a small mountain range by international height comparo with the tallest peak at somewhere around 7000feet. However, like anywhere with hills and valleys, the roads are twisty and they wind up and down, around and over, thru and between the rivers, valleys, gorges and the Hydro Electric Scheme infrastructure of man made lakes and power stations hidden away amongst the forest.
Hey Bob, I rang you when we were in Adaminaby but "no service" unfortunately!
The weather was prefect in the mid 20C's and the roads were clean and cars were few and far between. It's our version of motorcycling heaven.
Today as I was riding home with the lads, one of 'em rode up beside me and pointed to the kerb. We pulled over and I had a look at my rear wheel.
This is how it had been.
I think I had a close call!
Snowy Mountains.

Re: Snowy Mountains.
Good to see you're back home Steve after a fun ride, I went from Lake Buffalo through Cheshunt to Mansfield today, amongst other places. You probably weren't too far behind me.
Gotta watch those straps Steve!!! If I may, yours are too heavy by a long shot. The wheel has to be able to snap them if they happen to get caught up.

Re: Snowy Mountains.
I dropped a Honda like that once Steve, a bit of cloth, a small towel escaped, got picked up by my wheel and jammed ROCK HARD between the tyre and the gearbox. I came down pretty hard . The bike was completely locked up and the only way to shift it was to load it onto a ute.
The only thing that got the cloth out was concentrated bleach from the grocers. It took about 3 hours to eat the cloth to nothing .
Half your luck to be riding the Snowys !

We did manage to bump start it luckily.ME 109 wrote:Good to see you're back home Steve after a fun ride, I went from Lake Buffalo through Cheshunt to Mansfield today, amongst other places. What are you using Jeff? I was thinking a leather belt that won't come apart, but if it did it could be a disaster.
The rear hook lock is also cracked...
Sibbo, I think I may have dodged a bullet!

Re: Snowy Mountains.
Steve, can you tell how the strap failed and ended up there?
Lately, I've been using rein material (1/2" approx. leather strap from the saddlery [horse rider stuff]) that I rivet to a bicycle toe strap buckle. I will be very careful of any cloth items from now on.

Re: Snowy Mountains.
Just the one night there. Beechworth Friday night, Adaminaby Saturday then home Sunday via the Elliot Way.
We always eat at the Bowling Club. We call our ride The Crackerjack Tour, after the movie. They renamed the kitchen The Trout but there wasn't any trout on the menu! DISAPPOINTMENT! They had seafood though
The new trout by the highway was looking good!
