Retro-Beemer?
Re: Retro-Beemer?
Maybe the "beak" is BMWs nod to their rennsport past? (clickage on the pickage)
Re: Retro-Beemer?
Did vanzen send you a copy of his database?
I wonder what the purpose of that extension was?

They were used as mudguards. Guzzis and NSUs with leading link forks sometimes had them.
It was also an aerodynamic feature devoped in Guzzis wind tunnel in the early '50s.

I wish... Since there are fenders on that bike, I'm guessing it was for some sort of aerodynamic advantage... or maybe someone at BMW Design Studio liked dolphins?justoneoftheguys wrote:Did vanzen send you a copy of his database?

I was thinking that thing looked less beaky and more tongue-ey. In other woids, it looks all too much like a stuck out tongue. Almost humorous. Now, if it is aero, what the heck?Tim Shepherd wrote:Maybe the "beak" is BMWs nod to their rennsport past? (clickage on the pickage)

Re: Retro-Beemer?
The 'beak' on oilhead GSes does perform a function. It guides air into the oil cooler. The odd-looking 'cap' on top of the front fender on the R1150R did the same thing.

Soooo, when are you gonna buy this bike?Sibbo wrote:
I like this, new styling or rather stripped down styling but without the stupid functionless beak. This just looks like a modern bike and that is just fine with me so of course they discontinued it and kept the beakers .

A few years ago I was buying some tires at the local BMW dealership. As I waited to have them mounted, I checked out the bikes in the showroom. One of the "650" type bikes had a high mounted muffler on each side. One was a blank. I would never knowingly buy a bike with a dummy muffler. It made me wonder about what is going on at BMW. It was not the model Sibbo is enthusing about.

I believe it was storage space designed with symmetry in mind.Chuey wrote:A few years ago I was buying some tires at the local BMW dealership.
