replacement mufflers
Re: replacement mufflers
I like staintune, made in Oz. Everyone likes the sound. Shipping might be expensive.

Staintune are carried by many dealers in the U.S.. They are superb quality, but they are expensive.

Re: replacement mufflers
Current price for Staintunes are over $1000.
I got some "other-brand" before I got the most recent salvage ones. They needed sleeves to fit my 38mm pipes and because of that, they didn't seal tight. Lots of popping and they were louder.
Anyone using the MACs? Are they the right size? Websites that advertise MACs seem to skirt this issue.

That must be a subsidised price Jean.
Two staintune mufflers here were 1200 dollars last time I looked (and then looked away with a forlorn look)
Headers were 600 dollars.

"Over $1000 US" are outside my range anyway...$1200 certainly is that in spades!
I'm not holding my breath tho.. and something will turn up before I blow the ends off!

Re: replacement mufflers
EMGO's are available from JC Whitney for a very affordable price. They look like the OEM and sound very good. Not 'roarty' at all, just the typical BMW sound. I put a pair on my '75 R90/6.

They'll polish up nicely and they have a nice slightly deeper growl than stock. I think Mal in Dubbo has them.

Re: replacement mufflers
I got a pair of sport mufflers from EPCO Stainless a few years back, and a set of headers more recently. Very happy with these products.
IMO, the sport mufflers look good and sound good. Definitely not as quiet as the originals, but a long way from obnoxiously loud. I don't think it it totally safe to be totally quiet, if it ever was. There are too many pedestrians wondering across the streets, texting and listening to music.
