/5 Electric Start Issues

Post by boxertwinjeff »

Seems this problems been going on forever now, and I'm well over it... Have a Brand new
Valeo Starter Motor fitted not 6 months ago, and just bought a Brand new battery yesterday,
so I push the starter button, and still all I get is that dreaded very fast clicking noise!
Any ideas... please?, have also checked starter button wiring. Cheers jeff.

I seem to remember that I have a page on starter issues.

You just aren't getting enough current for the starter to do its job. I would be inspecting every wire for corrosion and bad crimping on terminals too.

I would be taking a serious look at the starter relay too.

No guarantee a new battery is good. Not likely to be the problem, but possible.
+1 on wiring check.
There must be a seriously stuffed connection somewhere to get just clicking with a new battery.
Does the /5 starter + come from the diode board?

Look-up /5 starter "cricket" using a search engine. I think both Snowbum and Duane address this. But if the starter was working OK before you had to change the battery, I'd suspect poor connections at the battery or a weak battery.
Connect a voltmeter at the battery posts and try to operate the starter...see what the voltqage drop is.
