Hey guys,
I thought I might have recouped enough to tackle this (mis)adventure.
Well, unfortunately, I don't have the wherewithal to get away this time... just ain't got my shit together yet, damn it!
It would have been a nice thing to have possibly hooked up with youse, Steve & Grant. Damn it!
Anyhow, no drama. I know you blokes will have a mighty fine time, once again... I WILL be thinking of yas!
Hopefully, I'll catch yas the next time around... so, instead a magnificent ride in the mountains , I'm gonna attempt a FD overhaul... hmmm, lucky me... (and possibly a venture to the Bendigo Swap Meet)... who knows...

There's nuthin' like a ride planned to encourage stuff to do to the bike.
I've managed to get mine running well now, the shaft drive leak appears to be from the upper, outer 12 point shaft to fd bolt being loose by a few turns. All new Penrite gear oil thru the 3 areas is done.
The front tube will be assessed in the morning and replaced if it's anything less than 35psi. I suspect there's a problem with it but it's not obvious, so for the sake of confidence it may get replaced.

This is gonna be a one nighter for me as I'm staying at my sisters tomorrow night then riding with Grant on Saturday morning for a couple of hours.

I'll have a tent, Aldi of course.
A sleeping bag. Warm enough. Pillow.
A ground mat, inflatable.
A tarp? Should I bring one? String it up as cover?

A billy to cook dinner in. Dinner and other food. Any suggestions? Breakfast?
Alcohol, a selection. Paracetamol.

I'm guessing there'll be copious supplies of wood. An axe? Firelighters, Fridays paper?

What else, other than the usual riding clobber?

Total kms from Morwell to Geehi should be around 550 or 9-10 hours depending on stoppages etc. Eta around 1800hrs?

caffeinating at Cowra. Its a glorious day 370kms to go. I recommend the run from Cabonne through Gumble to Cudal, if you are passing that way.

Gidday Fellas,

My official maiden voyage on the "K" went trouble free yesterday as I rode with SteveD up to the lovely East Gippsland township of Bairnsdale which is basically the start of the Great Alpine Way and from here Steve was then riding up, through and over the mountains to meet up with Charlie, Jeff and Mal who were camping over near the Mount Thedbo area, I received a text from Steve around 4pm from Corryong, a small town in Victoria which is located 120 kilometres (75 mi) east of Albury-Wodonga later that afternoon so I know he got thru the twisty, slippery dirt section of the road as we had discussed the weather over coffee at Bairnsdale as they were predicting a few showers over that way..

When I rolled to a stop in my driveway at 12.30pm yesterday after the quickish return ride from Bairnsdale where I had left steve, I had done 361kms in total and this being my decent motorcycle ride in 2 years I was very impressed with this "K"

At 20yrs old and only travelled 153,000kms which for these bikes is nothing the 1993 BMW K1100LT can certainly chew up the miles quickly with next to no discomfort on the rider (mind you the previous owner has hacked the seat a little to much for me, this needs sorting) as this was my first decent few hours on it since buying it back in March and fixing up some previous owners mistakes over winter.
At 100kph the 4 cylinder 1100cc motor is doing 4000rpm and is just wanting to open the front gate and bolt, up around 5rpm and beyond the engine is so smooth and responsive, endless really then add the full fairing combined with the adjustable electric screen which when adjusted can eliminate all wind noise and you can fully appreciate why these bikes where built for high speed autobahn commuting, it just does it just so very easily.. yes its a little bland looking and yes it lacks personality compared to the older "R" bikes but for the money I paid in total for the bike, repairs and rego $3600.00 is a bargain.

It was a great ride Grant. Thanks for coming along. We're talking Airbears Jagumba nr. Cabramurra hut for a night in April. I'm suggesting May 3 which is a fortnight after Easter and the weekend before Mothers Day.. Dial it in!

From Bruthen to Omeo, I passed 3 cars and there were maybe 6-7 coming the other way!
From Omeo to the Blue Duck, there were less than 5 vehicles...maybe 3.
The road from Omeo to Mitta Mitta had maybe 5-6 vehicles on it the whole way. That was including me and 4 other bikes!.

There were more vehicles parked at the Blue Duck than I saw rolling on the road for 2 hours. Here's half of 'em. Pix are thumbs, just click 'em, then the back arrow to return.


The dirt bit is just over 8 miles long. There are still bits of road with loose stone everywhere, but not much.
The rest of it was compacted clay and rode well. I was glad it was dry though 'cause it may have been very slippery otherwise.
This sign was somewhere in the middle of the dirt bit.


I arrived at Mitta Mitta at 1400 and slurped a great coffee as recommended by hzbloke (thanks Ray) and a fantastic chicken/vege/sweet chile pie.

From there I tootled off toward Geehi, limped in on the sniff of an oily rag to Corryong, where it dumped a huge downpour whilst I was filling up. I continued on to Towong Gap and this is what I saw ...

Not too promising.
However, when I arrived at Geehi it was good and Jeff, Charlie and Mal had already commandeered the hut and had the fire going, and beers in hand.

Terrific! Mals bike was already parked on the verandah!
