Yep, it happens often, timkil. See, we're not so much about solving problems or answering questions, though hopefully that gets done. What we have here at Boxerworks is a lot of guys and a few gals with a common interest--BMW motorcycles. What happens when you get a bunch of people like this together, such as at a BMW focused rally? Well, everything is talked about, including BMW motorcycles. And the conversation drifts wherever it goes. We are having fun with people we (mostly) like, and it doesn't get much better than that.

The fact is, it would be rather boring if talking about BMW motorcycles was all we did. So, rather than discourage off-the-topic conversations here, we embrace them.

As I re-read what I wrote before punching the "submit" button it reads a bit like this is some kind of noble enterprise. Rest assured, it's not. We're simply having a good time (except for the occasional sourpuss or egomaniac who shows up).

Ken

AAAAkkk...No,No,No! Garden washers are rubber. They'll squish out and not take the pressure. You must use metal...

No, no, Major. you're wrong about PITAPan being right! Timkil's "garden fresh washers" was a metaphor for fresh from the factory, thus being properly annealed. You should have put in that winking smilie to let us know you were typing tongue-in-cheek. But you knew that all along, didn't you? You were making a joke yourself, which would make you right.

OK, I just re-read my post to make sure I had the logic trail right. But then I lost track of PITAPan's right and timkil's right juxtaposed against your right.

Oh well. Whatever. I'm going to press the submit button and hope for the best. I can't let this thinking time and typing time go to waste, after all.

Dang it, next time put in winking smilie or an angry smilie, will you?

Sigh.

No Ken. Not rubber garden washers and not any sort of metalphorical washers (especially from ebay).

Just
plain
metal
washers.

Timkil, go to a VW supply shop with your banjo bolt. Say, "help".
They will have what you need.

I'm not sure I would do that.

We haven't discussed it, but some crush washers are copper and some are aluminum. I've been favoring aluminum (in a solid washer) on my drain plugs and whatnot. They seal with less force. The last brake lines I got had aluminum banjos and came with aluminum crush washers. So I used those. Again, I am threading the bolt into aluminum and I'd like to minimize the sealing force needed. I would consult the mfg. of the lines and see if they recommend anything in particular. may not make a hoot bit of difference---but when asking for help, ask the people that make the hardware you are using.
