Really? What is your source for that information? What are the differences in the cases? Not being a nit picker, just curious.

You can do anything.

The early 900 jugs are a bolt up on the /5 block, past that the /5 block has a smaller spigot hole than later 900 and 1000 jugs. So you open up the hole in the block or turn down the spigot. Now metal is getting thinner. It's been done but it's a weak solution to getting more power. The blocks were beefed up at some point but I've never heard of any rig cracking. The later blocks with the stilling chamber are preferred---better oil control which gives more power. But you can just use a windage can too. I've done the routine w/ 900 jugs and heads. Ultimately the chassis and braking weren't up to it. Using the stock 75/5 gearing the acceleration was strong---damaged alternator rotor, tore the splines off the rear drive and broke rear spokes. Good for hauling loads up mountain passes, 2 up touring with a camping load--- but moderation with the wrist was definitely required. Not a well balanced way to go.

I haven't been paying attention to R90S prices nowadays (though I do lust for a R90S). But the deal advertised sounds do-able, though more than just a "S" faring is needed (i.e. mounting hardware, S bars, etc, etc.).

The reason I'm thinking along these lines is that I'm currently converting my '78 R100S bike w Luftmeister fairing into a "S" bike as God and BMW intended it to be. (You may have seen that bike at the Boxerworks rally at my place last spring. It was one of those bikes drug out of the dark dust and cobwebby infested recesses of my shop for transport to Boise). I am about to take delivery of a new painted and pin striped, smoke red, S fairing being painted by Holt BMW. So I'll be going through the same process a person would have to do with the Craig's list R90S. The fairing is spendy, the fairing itself costing me around $1,200. All said and done I will probably be spending something like an additional $300 on the re-conversion, and that's with a lot of the mounting hardware in hand. Plus I will be spending a significant amount of my own labor.

My cup runneth over on Airhead (and other 2 wheeled) projects, but if an equivalent R90S deal had come up, say, 5 years ago I just might have sprung for it. (Plus my Daytona Orange S bike passion has cooled a bit of late.)

Last fall when riding in Montenegro, I ended up staying in a hotel that had a group of Estonian oilhead riders, mostly GS's. They were a group with matching tux tee shirts and were exploring as I was. They were gathered in the hotel restaurant, so I approached the group and politely asked them if I could get their opinion as a group. They were friendly and indicated that sure, and what was the question? I said in my country when you go to the BMW dealer (and I demonstrated) you get bent over and fkd in the ass, I asked them if that was true in their country. Without hesitation they all agreed that it was a universal phenomena. Good to know.
