I have replaced one tube due to chrome wear with an italian made one bought from motobins.
Quality seems good and it was cheaper and quicker to buy new than getting the old one re-chromed.

Various changes in ATE damper rods, mainly to improve damping and to reduce valve noise. Later would be better than /5 rods. But you can fit the later damper valve rings to the earlier forks.

i have been thinking about improving the stock /5 forks somehow but I don't want to go with Gold Valve emulators or anything like that.
I want to cure the 'dive' that can happen when braking but I don't want to stiffen the suspension too much (potholes are rampant here). Lately i have been wondering if throwing late 70's dampener and springs into /5 fork tubes would help.
Has anybody had any success with such a swap?
Or are there any other tricks to improve /5 fork handling? I'm not looking for race suspension, just less 'dive' and spongy effects yet able to swallow potholes.

JJ, perhaps increasing the oil quantity in each for will assist?

There are anti-dive springs that used to be marketed back in the day. IIRC they slipped over the damper rod. One of my airheads has them. I never did notice any significant difference, though I never made any real effort to determine if there actually was a difference.

The later ATE forks can be set up to use with RT fairings et. Etc, so the damping is much better, if you pm me your email I will send you an article all about the changes in /6 forks. Don't renew the metal wiper rings as the ones produced are oversized and will cause fork stiction. I was chasing my tail for ages on this one and ended up getting the damper pistons machined for the later post 81 plastic piston seals, and my stiction was gone.



Many people reckon that part of the instability issues with /5 and early /6s was partly due to lack of damping in the forks.
