Sometimes I get lucky...AGAIN !

Post by Bamboo812 »

Yesterday I scored the Big Islands BMW Barn Find Motherload ! I've known about this guys collection for years. I actually sold him the red RS back in the 1980s. He was asking way too much for bikes that have been sitting for so many years, started out at $3000 three years ago, $2000 last year and this time he took my offer of $1000 (and included hauling it all to my place)! The RS was heavily modified with every Luftmeister accessory in the catalog, plus the big bore kit, ported heads etc. The parts stash that came with it even included a NOS and NLA kit for adding a kick starter to a 5 speed trans... an extra pair of Dellorto carbs, two braced swing arms, two tool kits, Parabellum fairing, second Luftmeister 2into1 exhaust, three good seats... I'm in parts  They are all a bit crusty, but as you know, that's how I like them. No Emotional Attachment; I'll be posting many parts soon in a Flea Market near you: Image Image

It would be a steal here too, though not as much of a one as where you live likely.

Heh, the seller said I would make money selling to all the other BMW owners on the island. I told him, there's just me and the other guy... We laughed, but I realize that I now own probably more than half of the 1970s BMWs on the island. One option, get one or two more running, and rent them until I can sell them. I have to build my own consumer base, literally! Lucky for me, crusty old hacked up barely legal BMWs are the latest hipster trend...

Good idea. I'd honestly be tempted to be a customer. One 2015 happiness plan I have is to get to the States to catch up with friends, Nebraska, Chicago, Edmonton, Winterpeg. I don't think getting hold of a bike and riding between any of them places would fun.

But! ... a big old scenic island en-route .....

Timo, for some reason I'm seeing a picture in my head of you bounding around like a demented pixie shouting, "They're mine, all mine", etc. Well done, mate.
